EXPERIENCE

William C. George practices out of Fee, Smith & Sharp’s Austin, Texas office, and has represented clients throughout Texas and Louisiana.

Bill has practiced law for more than three decades, with an extensive practice in litigation, insurance matters, and transactions. His experience includes the representation of business owners and managers, general contractors, subcontractors, motor carriers, product manufacturers, governmental institutions and insurance companies. He has an extensive background in casualty litigation including vehicular accidents, premises liability claims, construction defect claims, and is experienced in trial and appellate matters.

He has also served as corporate claims counsel for nearly a decade for one of the country’s largest property and casualty insurers. As corporate counsel, he has provided counsel and advice and given presentations to business leaders in claims operations, sales and marketing, and agents and producers. He has counseled on many issues, including compliance, bad faith avoidance, contracts and processes, insurance coverage disputes, management of high exposure and extra-contractual claims, and medical and health care matters. He has served as a corporate representative and offered testimony in court and legal proceedings on many of these matters. Bill’s corporate and claims background provides him with unique understanding and insight into the perspectives of professionals in the insurance and claims management business.

Bill holds degrees from Louisiana State University in political science, and from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center of Louisiana State University where he was selected to the Moot Court Board. Upon graduation from the Law Center, he became a law clerk for the chief judge of the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal, and thereafter transitioned into private law and corporate practices.

He is active in the community and has given his time to many charitable and volunteer organizations, including Keep Austin Beautiful, the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, the San Antonio Food Bank, Bike Austin, and USA Cycling.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • Served as first chair trial counsel and obtained a favorable unanimous jury verdict in a case in the successful defense of a sheriff and deputy in a vehicular accident case with serious injuries alleged.
  • Served as first chair trial counsel and obtained a favorable unanimous jury verdict in a case in the successful defense of a utility company where it was alleged that a service interruption caused significant property and bodily injury damages.
  • Served as first chair trial counsel and obtained a favorable unanimous jury verdict in the successful defense of an insurance company in a claim for damages and extracontractual bad faith damages.
  • Served as first chair trial counsel and obtained a favorable unanimous jury verdict in the successful defense of a top 50 Fortune 500 retail company in the defense of a premises liability claim.
  • Served as corporate representative and witness for a Fortune 500 insurance company in the successful defense by unanimous jury verdict of a large loss claim for penalties, bad faith and extracontractual damages.
  • Served as appellate counsel and argued numerous successful appeals for clients including a school district, a law enforcement agency, a large global commercial real estate and investment company, a product manufacturer and several insurance companies.
  • Author, lecturer and instructor of several instructional and regulator-approved continuing education courses concerning good faith claims practices, liens and privileges, legislative and litigation developments, and insurance contract analysis.
