About Derrick
EXPERIENCE
Derrick Woods joined Fee Smith as a Senior Associate in 2025. He is a trial lawyer with experience in Insurance Defense. He maintains a diverse litigation practice with an emphasis on trucking and transportation, and personal injury litigation.
Derrick has successfully litigated civil cases in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. He has successfully argued motions in court and prepared successful dispositive motions. Derrick is skilled in negotiating and executing settlements to minimize client exposure.
Prior to joining Fee, Smith & Sharp, Derrick honed his litigation skills practicing insurance defense litigation primarily third-party litigation suits, which provided extensive experience developing and implementing litigation strategies to try cases and evaluate and resolve cases.
Derrick is a first-generation attorney and originally from Connecticut. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Bridgeport and received his law degree from Southern University Law Center. Derrick received his law license in 2019 and moved to Dallas.
In his free time, Derrick enjoys hiking, cooking, and playing and watching a variety of sports, including basketball, baseball, and football.
